The Barton Aqueduct was a world first and a remarkable feat of engineering in its time. It was once considered one of the seven wonders of the canal age, paving the way for future aqueducts and viaducts. Unfortunately, there isn’t much left to see today, as the original aqueduct was demolished in 1893 to make way for the Barton Swing Aqueduct. The site is surrounded by fences, making it difficult to explore, but it’s still an interesting part of our industrial history. Worth a visit if you’re into canal engineering and historical landmarks.
