A hidden historical gem tucked away in The Carr. To reach the site of The Chapel of St Olaf, walk down the footpath from Hawthorn Lane, turn left, and keep left as the trail leads you through peaceful woodland.

Although only a few courses of stonework and the base of the spiral staircase remain, it’s still fascinating to imagine what once stood here. The chapel once had a pulpit and a spiral stone staircase that led up to a tower overlooking the beautiful Bollin Valley.

Dedicated to Olaf Tryggvason Norway's first Christian king and a key figure in converting the Vikings to Christianity the chapel has deep historical roots. Olaf is even said to have built the first church in Norway in 995 and led the second wave of Viking raids on England.

It’s well worth a visit for history lovers or those exploring the area on foot. A peaceful spot with a powerful connection to Viking and Christian heritage.
